A tribal women-led farmer producer company, Murhu Nari Shakti Kisan Producer Company Limited from Khunti was declared Joint Winner of the FPO of the Year – Large Category at a national livelihoods summit highlighting the role of farmer collectives. The organisation, continues to strengthen rural enterprises through long-standing partnerships and the Lakhpati Kisan initiative.
A team from a Rural Upliftment Portfolio visited CInI in Jharkhand to review work under the Lakhpati Kisan Program. The visit included field interactions with farmers, assessments of crop practices and technology use, meetings with women-led producer companies, and discussions with local entrepreneurs, reinforcing collaborative efforts to strengthen rural livelihoods.
A state-level conclave themed on green, inclusive livelihoods brought together community leaders, institutions, and sector stakeholders to discuss pathways for expanding sustainable rural income opportunities. The event featured the launch of a compendium showcasing transformative livelihood stories and recognized outstanding rural entrepreneurs.
A cervical cancer screening camp was organised at Jalat PHC in Dahod district in collaboration with GCRI, drawing women from Jalat and neighbouring hamlets. A total of 120 women were screened for cervical, breast, and oral cancer, many for the first time. The initiative marked a vital step toward preventive healthcare and stronger community well-being.
The COTPA team from Nikum Block conducted a tobacco awareness session at Rasmada High School, engaging 69 students from Classes 9 and 11. Students were briefed on health risks and key COTPA regulations. The visit followed a district review identifying the school as a priority. The initiative was supported by Durg Shivnath Expressways Pvt. Ltd.
CInI’s education teams celebrated World Indigenous Day with cultural activities, folk stories, and traditional games. By integrating local language, heritage, and history into learning, the initiative builds confidence and cultural pride in indigenous children while strengthening community bonds.
From 1–7 August, six Shirpur villages marked World Breastfeeding Week under HRDP, supported by CInI and HDFC Bank Parivartan. Health experts and community leaders promoted exclusive breastfeeding, maternal nutrition, and supportive family roles through awareness drives, helping ensure healthier beginnings for rural children.
Last summer, 1,309 women farmers across six FPCs in Jharkhand cultivated watermelons on 351 acres, yielding 469 MT and earning ₹46.94 lakh. With transparent pricing and coordinated sales, production has now reached 3,387 tonnes. This community-led model is boosting rural incomes and empowering women farmers.
In Jharkhand’s Tundi block, 30 farmers are using portable solar-powered Khetwork pumps under CInI’s Lakhpati Kisan Program for year-round irrigation. With a 50% subsidy and easy loan model, these 0.5 HP pumps reduce costs, are eco-friendly, and easy to operate. Farmers like Sagen Soren and Kalomoti Devi have already repaid or foreclosed loans through increased farm income.
Can tough weather conditions inspire new opportunities? In Jharkhand, they have.
CInI, an initiative of Tata Trusts, is helping farmers adopt grafting techniques under the Lakhpati Kisan Program—combining wild brinjal roots with tomato plants to grow stronger, disease-resistant crops. These grafted tomato saplings are raised in mist chambers and ensure steady harvests throughout the year, boosting farmer income.
Meet Kiran Murmu from Hazaribagh. In her polycarbonate mist chamber, she grafts thousands of saplings—meeting her own needs and earning extra income by selling them to others. Last year alone, she earned over ₹5 lakhs, becoming a local inspiration.
So far, CInI has supported four rural entrepreneurs in two Jharkhand districts to start grafted sapling production. The goal is to expand this model and help more tribal communities build sustainable livelihoods and break the cycle of poverty.
In July 2025, a 5-day centralized training was held in Jamshedpur to strengthen awareness around Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHHM). The training brought together 16 passionate participants from Jharkhand, Maharashtra and Gujarat.
The sessions covered key topics including:
👧 MHHM modules for adolescent girls
👦 MHHM modules for adolescent boys
👩🏫 Orientation for teachers and School Management Committees (SMCs)
🩸 A deeper understanding of menstrual health challenges
Through interactive activities, discussions, and practical tools, the training equipped grassroots facilitators to confidently take MHHM awareness to schools, communities, and families—reaching the last mile with empathy and impact.

We’re proud to share that the Lakhpati Kisan Program (LKP) model by CInI has been featured in a policy document by the Central Agricultural University, as part of their efforts to shape Sustainable Futuristic Economies.
Earlier this year, in March, our Jharkhand Team Leader, Mr. Sirshendu Paul, presented the LKP model—highlighting how grassroots innovations, collective learning, and locally-led planning can strengthen rural livelihoods.

These activities are designed not just for physical fitness, but to build lifelong habits that support healthier and more engaged learners. By integrating physical literacy into the school day, the initiative aims to create a more dynamic and inclusive learning environment.
This marks the beginning of a focused effort to reintroduce the joy of movement into education.
