Description
The programme aims to improve safe, dignified, and sustainable bathing spaces in rural areas through the construction and monitoring of household and community-level toilet and bathroom units. The incumbent will undertake extensive field visits and provide technical oversight to ensure quality construction, community acceptance, and long-term usability of bathing space infrastructure ensuring adherence to design standards, safety, functionality, and community needs within project timelines.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Technical planning, preparation of layouts with drawings, and finalization of designs for bathroom units/toilets considering aspects of gender-sensitivity, user-friendly
- Conduct regular site visits to track progress, workmanship, and material quality. Monitoring the execution of civil works ensuring quality, safety, and compliance with approved designs.
- Provide on-site technical guidance to masons, local contractors, and implementation
- Support pre-implementation village-level activities, including concept seeding and awareness sessions related to safe bathing, sanitation, and hygiene.
- Coordination with relevant block/district level officials to maintain convergence with relevant sanitation-related government schemes, wherever required.
- Monitor and document construction progress using appropriate tools and checklists, maintaining progressive photographs, site records, and technical documentation for monthly and periodic reporting.
- Facilitate orientation and basic training of masons, community volunteers, and local stakeholders on quality construction practices for toilet and bathroom units.
Desired Candidate Profile
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent education
- Experience: 2-3 years' experience in execution of WaSH interventions/ rural Civil works
Key Skills
- Strong understanding of rural sanitation, bathing space design and water conservation & management Community engagement, communication, coordination and training skills
- Field-level monitoring and vendor management skills in civil works
- Ability to use relevant computer applications for record keeping, designing and reporting
- Organizational skills for working independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Hindi, Chhattisgarhi and local dialect is preferred
